The City of West Okoboji is located in Dickinson County, the smallest county in land area, the county is named in honor of Daniel S. Dickinson, a lawyer and senator from New York. The community is nestled between Arnolds Park and Wahpeton.  At one time, West Okoboji and Wahepton were the same town, but separated in September of 1930.

West Okoboji’s mayor, Howard Titterington,  has served for approximately 60 years.

Water sports on West Lake Okoboji range from sailing to scuba diving and from swimming to water skiing. Sandy beaches invite all to spend lazy afternoons by the shore and in the swimming areas. For the more daring, wind surfing and parasailing provide more opportunities for excitement.
