Street Repairs

Okoboji Blvd will be closed from Larabee Street to Givens Avenue until Memorial Day due to beach construction. Please use Givens/Kirkwood Ave to detour around.

The City will be repairing and seal coating 212th Loop in May. This project should be done before Memorial Day.

YARD WASTE

Grass Clippings, Garden Waste and Leaves must be separate from Tree Limbs.  If you are using bags please use paper lawn bags instead of plastic.  Tree limbs shall be less than 4 inches in diameter and not longer than 4 feet.

If you have a large amount please haul to the Recycling Facility 1/2 mile East of the Catholic Church in Milford (north side of the road).  Their website is http://dickinsoncountyconservationboard.com/recycling-center/

White Goods – Electronics – Bulky Items – Tires

Effective 08/14/2018 the city council has implemented a tag system for white goods, electronics, bulky items and tires.  A tag will need to be purchased at City Hall for the disposal of these items.  Once a tag is purchased the item must be placed at your curbside and public works will pick up your item.  For pricing and more information see the services tab above – general services – scroll down to recycling tag fees

GARBAGE PICKUP

Garbage Pickup is Monday only.  If a holiday is on a Monday, Garbage will be picked up on Tuesday.  Please have garbage out by 7 A.M.  For your convenience garbage dumpsters are located behind City Hall for common household trash and residents of West Okoboji only.  If you have larger items or construction remodeling waste, call City Hall for more details.  Under no circumstances are these items to be disposed of behind City Hall.  Cameras are in use to monitor this type of illegal dumping.

RECYCLING

Curbside recycling collection days are the 2nd and 4th Mondays during June, July and August.  September through May it is picked up on the last Monday.  If a holiday is on a Monday, recycling will be picked up on Tuesday.  Please have items out by 7 A.M. on pickup days.  The City will provide you with a recycling tote upon request.  There are recycle bins located behind City Hall for cardboard, tin, plastic, glass and paper, if you should miss the curbside collection.

Residential recyclable curbside items include:

  1. Tin: food containers only.  Rinsed clean, discard lids, labels okay.
  2. Plastic: check the bottom for recycling code (numbers 1, 2 or 3).
  3. Cardboard: corrugated, pop cartons, cereal cartons, Kleenex boxes – all flattened.
  4. White & pastel paper: typing, computer, envelopes without windows or plastic removed, and other non-shiny white or pastel paper.  Newspaper:  anything received in the newspaper is recyclable as well as all paper not considered white paper.  Paper back books & hardcover books with hardcover removed.
  5. Shredded paper: bagged in a clear plastic bag.
  6. Glass: food or drink containers only.  Rinsed clean, discard lids, labels okay.

Do not recycle the following items:

Ceramics, porcelain, and baking glass.  Waxed milk cartons, Styrofoam egg cartons, pizza boxes, single use items or Styrofoam.  Bleach bottles, anti-freeze, oil containers or other hazardous materials.  Rubber, metal, waste or wood. Plastic Grocery bags (please take back to stores that recycle them)
